Ninos Dammo is the head coach and founder of Australian Elite Team (AET), and a coach first and foremost. A 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ninos began his journey in 2001, but it was his belief in people - not just performance that shaped what AET would become.

From four mats laid out in his backyard in 2004, Ninos built Australian Elite Team from the ground up, growing it into one of the most respected and dominant competition teams in the country. Today, AET spans more than 30 affiliates across Australia, with an international presence in Bali, Indonesia.

While Ninos has competed extensively himself, his greatest impact has been as a coach. Through years of firsthand experience, he developed a deep understanding of what creates successful athletes - not only in terms of skill and conditioning, but in character, mindset and personal responsibility. This approach has seen him work with some of Australia’s most accomplished fighters, including UFC athletes Callum Potter, Jake Matthews, Jimmy Crute, Ben Sosoli, and Jonathan Micallef.

Under Ninos’ leadership, Australian Elite Team has achieved accolades too numerous to list, including a Top 10 world ranking in 2023 - making it the only Australian-branded gym to reach this level on the international stage.

What truly sets Ninos apart from the rest is his coaching philosophy. He believes that no two athletes are the same and that great coaching means adapting to the individual. His goal is never to impose, dominate, or prove himself right; but to meet people exactly where they are and help them move forward. Whether coaching elite competitors or everyday students, Ninos brings the same integrity, patience and respect to every interaction.
